Natalia is Here

After three days of labor the doctors decided that a C-Section was necessary because of failure to progress.
From my point of view things were pretty much under control most of the way.
The first signs of contractions were on Tuesday night. Lisa woke up because of them but was able to walk them off. The only down side was that they lasted all night. By Wednesday morning the contractions were gone and Lisa was tired but feeling better. I on the other hand was down with a really nasty cold. Wednesday night the contractions started again as soon as we were ready for bed and this time they continued throughout the day without establishing a real pattern aside from pain. So at night we decided to call it a night early in case the super painful contractions returned that night, and they did but this time they were so bad that Lisa couldn’t take it anymore and so we went to the hospital to have her checked out.
It was a good thing because the laboring had started and things were well on their way. So Friday was all about the drugs. Lisa had some sort of narcotic to help her with the pain, which did it’s job and allowed her to sleep, something
she handn’t done in quite a while. But after a while the contractions upped the ante and we had to call for the good stuff, the epidural.
Around 3 pm the doctor came around to check on things and realized that they were not
moving along and in fact things were starting to go bad. Lisa was begining to get a fever, progress was not being made by either mom or child so they decided that a C-section was the best thing to do.
Like any good husband would do, I put on the scrubs, sanitized my hands and headed into
the OR with my wife. Lucky for me I was only allowed to stay by her head and there was a separation between me and the ‘chopping’ so I was not tempted to look, that would have been a bad idea.
A few minutes later Natalia was born, sadly mom was too doped up to really have any
emotions and dad (me) was in too much shock to take it all in…and that’s how it all started.
The whole birth process from labor to delivery to being a parent is probably the scariest most unnerving thing I’ve ever done, but I must also add that all my parenting expertise (2 days, 5 hours) has taught me that being with your child is by far the most wonderful and rewarding feeling you can ever experience.
